Toyota Land Cruiser FJ Revealed!
Toyota has finally revealed the mini Fortuner, the Land Cruiser FJ. While it is not officially called the mini Fortuner, judging by its dimensions, it is safe to say that it will be a slightly more affordable and smaller Fortuner, retaining the off-road prowess, reliability and ruggedness. The Japanese brand is planning on expanding its lineup and making the Land Cruiser nameplate more attainable to all. In many countries, you get the Land Cruiser Prado or the 250 series, which is a slightly more affordable Land Cruiser.

However, this new Land Cruiser FJ will sit below the Prado, making it more accessible. Based on the IMV platform, the Land Cruiser FJ will be manufactured in Thailand and is mainly aimed towards the global markets. It is highly unlikely that the Land Cruiser FJ will be offered in the US and Europe, as the US already has the Land Cruiser 250 series and the 4Runner. As for Europe, the Euro 7 norms for SUVs have become even more stringent, requiring SUVs to have hybrid powertrains. So, Toyota may not offer the Land Cruiser FJ in Europe either.

Based on the same platform as the Hilux, the Land Cruiser FJ is aimed at markets like Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. Although there is no confirmation, Toyota could introduce the Land Cruiser FJ in India. That said, what can we expect from this new SUV?

What’s New?
Based on Toyota’s IMV platform, the new Land Cruiser FJ will share its interior layout with the bigger Land Cruiser 250 series. However, the material quality won’t be as premium as the 250 series LC. As we said, this could be a mini Fortuner. The reason is that the Land Cruiser FJ’s dimensions are slightly smaller than those of the Fortuner. The dimensions are as follows:

- Width – 1855mm
- Height – 1835mm
- Wheelbase – 2745mm
Toyota Land Cruiser FJ
- Length – 4575mm
- Width – 1855mm
- Height – 1960mm
- Wheelbase – 2580mm

So, it is safe to say that the Land Cruiser FJ will be placed below the Fortuner, and will likely be more affordable and accessible. In terms of features, the Land Cruiser FJ prototype gets features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, a powered driver seat and much more. Although, unlike the Fortuner, the Land Cruiser FJ will likely be offered as a 5-seater version only. Under the hood will be a 2.7-litre petrol engine producing 161bhp and 246Nm of torque along with a 6-speed AT, available in 2WD as well as 4WD. The same powertrain is available in the existing Fortuner, but the 4WD option is not offered in the petrol engine. If Toyota plans to bring the Land Cruiser FJ to India, we expect it to be priced between Rs 35 Lakh and Rs 45 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
