At the Bharat Mobility Auto Show, Toyota showcased its rebadged version of Maruti e Vitara named Urban Cruiser electric. The model was expected to make its debut this year, after the Maruti e Vitara. However, as Maruti delayed the launch of its own first electric SUV, the effect was also extended to Toyota’s model.

Talking about its expected pricing, the Toyota EV SUV can be priced between Rs 17 lakh and Rs 24 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), to give a tough competition to Hyundai Creta EV. But, what all it has to offer at the price-point?

Toyota Urban Cruise EV – Design

Now, according to industry sources, Toyota will be debuting its electric SUV in the next year. The model was revealed in its final production version. Talking about its design, even after being a rebadged version, Toyota’s EV SUV will have its different design language (obviously to differentiate itself from Maruti’s SUV). 

Design-wise, the Urban Cruise EV has different LED headlamps along with pixel-styled small DRLs above it, different bumper, new alloys, LED taillamps differentiated from the e Vitara. However, both the Toyota and Maruti EVs share the same silhouette. Now, let’s have a look at the features –

On the inside, the Urban Cruiser EV will feel similar to its Maruti version. The cabin features the same multi-layer design with twin-floating displays for instrument cluster and infotainment, and even gets the same new two-spoke flat bottom steering wheel from the e Vitara, but with a Toyota logo, obviously. 

Talking about the features, some popular ones include a twin screen setup, Level 2 ADAS suite, JBL premium audio system, wireless charging pad, sunroof, ventilated front seats, sliding and reclining rear seats, powered driver seat and more. Now, the SUV is also expected to be safe and offer 6-airbags as standard, while the top trims might also offer 7-airbags.

Powertrain

The Toyota SUV will be offering the same battery spec from the Maruti version – a 49 kWh and a 61 kWh. The automaker has not yet revealed details specifying the range, but has claimed that the latter one will offer a range of more than 500 km on a single charge. However, there has been no confirmation about the model getting an AWD configuration at present. 

More details about the SUV are expected to be revealed as we near its launch, by the start of the new year.
