Tata Jeep Partnership – Jeep SUVs To Use Tata’s Engine

According to Autocar reports, Stellantis group is exploring the options to use Tata Motors’ new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. If finalised this new engine will be equipped to power the Jeep Compass and Meridian.
Tata Motors with the launch of Sierra, will debut its new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. This turbo petrol engine is capable of producing 170bhp and 280Nm torque. Now, if everything goes according to the plan, this engine could be equipped with the Jeep Compass & Meridian and also with Tata Harrier and Safari in the coming time.

All the models mentioned above come with diesel powertrains, as many buyers are afraid of buying diesel powered cars, the new petrol engine could make some change in the sales. Stellantis and Tata Motors jointly own the Ranjangaon plant, which produces the 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine powering Compass, Meridian, Harrier and Safari SUVs. That said, the new petrol engine is also expected to be built at the same plant.

But why is Stellantis outsourcing? Well this could help the brand economically, as developing its own engine for small volumes would not be fruitful for the automaker. The Compass and Meridian are sold in very less volumes in India, and funding more to make a new engine might be another economical crisis.

After Tata Motors equipped this new engine with its Harrier and Safari in the country. We expect it to be priced a bit lower than its diesel variants, hence making it more affordable.
