Driverless Toyota Innova – What’s Cooking?

A video from Namaste Car’s YouTube channel is circulating online, showcasing the autonomous driving feature in a Toyota Innova. Watching this, we even thought it might be some AI magic again — and to our surprise, it was real. Moreover, this feature modification has been done by an Indian!

So, what is all this about? Well, a man named Roshy John, founder of Rosh.AI, has made this possible. Now, to make this car drive autonomously, Roshy and his team have used a combination of 360-degree camera, radars and sensors placed around the car. The systems work to detect obstacles and respond to make the drive smoother. All these controls are installed in the vehicle’s boot and cannot be accessed. But, even after installing these controls, there are no changes on the inside, and the car is the same as the regular Innova.

These combinations help map the route and maintain a path, even at 100 kmph. The video showcases how the Innova is driving down the road without any human input. Here, the car is driven on a private road, not on regular city roads, as Indian law does not allow fully autonomous cars on roads at present. Moreover, as this tech is not fully developed, it still requires some human input in case of any sudden obstacle.

What’s more shocking is that this autonomous driving kit is currently sold in some foreign countries for Rs 25 lakh. But, will it be useful in India?

Autonomous Driving Kits – The Future?

The car industry always drives innovation – and in the future, the need for autonomous driving kits could be one. At present, there’s no clear picture of the future of fully driverless cars in India. But in the future, if India allows fully autonomous cars, this tech could be a game-changer, allowing any car owner to install it in their own car to make it fully autonomous.
