New FASTag Payment Rule – For Non-FASTag Users

New FASTag Payment RuleNew FASTag Payment Rule

MoRTH has always been strict to the vehicle owners crossing tolls without having a valid FASTag. Earlier, non-FASTag users were charged double the toll amount, regardless of the mode of payment. However, with its new norms, MoRTH has now offered some relief to the UPI users.

From November 15, the UPI users will be charged 1.25x of the toll amount, while those who use the cash payment mode will continue to pay twice the FASTag rate. This reduction in price has been mandated to lower the use of cash mode and promote digital payments for the ease of both parties.

With this mode, we also expect the queues at toll plazas to not hold longer, which used to be in cash transactions. That said, ease of congestion caused at toll plazas remains to be the most primary obstacle in the diary of MoRTH. Apart from that, digital payments will also help to improve transparency in toll collections across the highway network in India.

But the main question to be seen is, why pay double when you can just opt for a FASTag. It stands as the most cost-effective way to pay tolls. At present, over 7 crore FASTags have been issued and 97 percent of toll transactions are already digitally paid.
